Marie Hermo Jensen started dancing at her Mother´s dance school, Hammerfest Ballettverksted in Hammerfest, Norway, where she was born and raised. The professional contemporary dance company, which developed alongside the school changed name a few times through the years, but is today called Stellaris DansTeater and is the oldest independent dance company in Norway today. The company is owned by Artistic Director and Dance Artist Solveig Leinan-Hermo, and is likely the northernmost of it's kind. Marie went on to study at Follo Folkehøgskole, School for Contemporary Dance in Oslo (Norway) and London Contemporary Dance School at The Place where she graduated in 2003 from the BA (Hons) Dance Degree Course. She returned home.
In 2004 she debuted as a choreographer and has since then shown work around the Barents region and in New Zealand, where she first visited in 2003. She has been a contributor to the work of Forum for North-Norwegian Dance Artists and The Barents DanceCouncil, and continue to work alongside Solveig in her activities in many roles. stellaris dance nz (sdnz) started up 1st of May 2010 and is a branching off Stellaris DansTeater, and the two entities continue to have a close relationship. In 2011 Marie joined the Waikato Contemporary Dance Projects Trust, where she today sits as a trustee. She was Artistic and Administrative Director for DanseFestival Barents in Hammerfest, Norway 2016-2018, where she today also contributes as a part of the artistic committee and in admin/marketing. Her ongoing work is today in both countries, currently located in both Hammerfest, Norway & New Plymouth, New Zealand.
